ABOUT XIAMEN


Xiamen, a beautiful seaside city in southeast China's Fujian Province, covers an area of 1,700 km2 and has a population of 5.3 million. It has been an important port for centuries and became one of China's earliest Special Economic Zones in 1980. The name Xiamen means "door to the house", referring to the city's centuries-old role as a gateway to China. With a reputation of “the Garden of the Sea”, it is also a famous hometown for overseas Chinese and Taiwanese.

Xiamen has been accredited as an International Livable Community, National Sanitary City, National Garden City, National Model City for Environmental Protection, and National Excellence in Tourism City. Known as the most livable city in China, this scenic island enjoys pleasant weather all year round. Owing to its location in the subtropical oceanic climate zone, mild and rainy, Xiamen has an annual average temperature of 21℃.

The Port of Xiamen ranks among the top 10 in China, with 51 international sea routes. It is also one of the major aviation hubs in East China. To date, Xiamen has more than 90 air routes to both domestic and international destinations, including more than 70 cities in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Korea, Japan, etc. In addition, Xiamen’s broad spectrum of modern telecommunication services facilitates quick and easy international connections.
